New Features of the Flipsky VX5 Waterproof Remote Control – IMU Function

Flipsky VX5 is a waterproof remote control designed for personal electric vehicles such as electric surfboards and electric skateboards. The built‑in IMU module of the VX5 is officially unlocked in firmware version V1.1.0 and further optimized in version V1.1.2, aiming to bring a brand‑new control experience for water sports enthusiasts.

What is the IMU function of the VX5?

The VX5 integrates an IMU module that can sense the tilt angle of the remote control in real time. With the IMU function, you can control the motor’s throttle output by tilting the remote control, instead of relying solely on the traditional trigger.

Simply put: tilting the remote control to the left or right will cause the surfboard or skateboard to accelerate or differentially steer accordingly. This provides a new solution for scenarios such as electric surfboards where finger‑free operation or intuitive control is desired.

Applicable Versions and Prerequisites

Firmware version: This function is officially available in firmware V1.1.0 and above.

Mode restriction: The IMU function is available only in E-surfing Mode, and the dual‑channel mode must be set to asynchronous.

Default state: For safety reasons, the IMU function is disabled by default after each power‑off and restart; it must be manually enabled each time.

How to enable and use the IMU function

Enabling method:On the main screen while the usage conditions are met (i.e., Electric Surfboard Mode and asynchronous control mode selected), double‑press the “Setting Button”. The screen will show an enable prompt and display the IMU angle throttle progress bar.

Operation logic:
- Left/right tilt: Depending on the settings, tilting the remote control to a specific direction increases power.
- Horizontal position: Returns throttle output to 0%.

Safety notice: To prevent accidental activation, the IMU output will be re‑enabled only after the remote control is placed horizontally in the following three scenarios: re‑entering the main interface, performing an unlock action, or double‑pressing to enable the IMU function. If the remote is not held horizontally when detected, the progress bar will display a red alarm.

How to configure the IMU function

After entering the “Remote Control Parameter Settings” interface, you can fine‑tune the IMU with the following options:

Maximum throttle detection angle (0–90°):  Sets the critical tilt angle that triggers 100% throttle output. When the tilt angle reaches this threshold, the throttle output becomes full. If the angle exceeds the threshold, the throttle remains at maximum.

Maximum stop output angle: Sets a safety threshold. When the remote control is tilted beyond this angle, the system will automatically cut off power to prevent unintended runaway.

Maximum stop output angle: Sets a safety threshold. When the remote control is tilted beyond this angle, the system will automatically cut off power to prevent unintended runaway.

Throttle dead zone (1–15%): Defines a tolerance range around the horizontal position to filter out slight hand tremors.

Throttle direction: Sets “Forward” or “Reverse” mapping according to personal preference.

Maximum throttle percentage (1–100%): Limits the highest power output in IMU mode.
